Oh WordPress
And your innumerable
Rising stars,
How can I please
Your, oh so, fickle heart?
Perhaps, it is folly to even try.
And one should only make art
To satisfied the I,
Seeking purely the joy
Of creating it.

This makes me think of the Dao de Jing. EG:
He who clings to his work
will create nothing that endures.
~ Laozi
Tao te Ching, Chap. 24
Stephen Mitchell trans.
Fill your bowl to the brim
and it will spill.
Keep sharpening your knife
and it will blunt.
Chase after money and security
and your heart will never unclench.
Care about people’s approval
and you will be their prisoner.
Do your work, then step back.
The only path to serenity.
~ Laozi
Tao te Ching, Chap. 9

Yes it’s a strange duality between wanting an audience and knowing that it doesn’t lead to satisfaction. I’m guessing that most of us have to encounter it in some form.
